Free Printable Goal Setting Template
Updated October 8, 2026 · Free · No signup · A4 + US Letter
Most goals die between the brainstorm and the calendar. This goal setting template closes that gap on a single page: three goals, each with its reason ("why it matters"), four concrete action steps with checkboxes, and a deadline-plus-done pair that turns intention into a date.
Run it quarterly — three pages a year, each reviewed at the next quarter's start. The sheet is undated: quarter one can start on any Tuesday it likes. Sage or blush, A4 or US Letter, instant PDF, no signup.
What's inside
- Three goal blocks per page — the number that fits a quarter without fiction
- A "why it matters" line per goal, because February needs it more than January does
- Four checkbox action steps per goal: specific enough to do, small enough to start
- Deadline and Done lines — the gap between them is the quarter's honest report card
How to use it
- Write the why before the what. A goal without a reason is a chore with a costume on.
- Make action steps embarrassing-small: "open the document", not "finish the project". The boxes exist to be ticked.
- Give each goal a real deadline — a month, not "someday" — and put it where the weekly planner will see it.
- Next quarter, start from the previous sheet: unfinished steps either earn a place on the new page or get deleted honestly.
Printing it right
Download the file that matches your paper — US Letter or A4 — and print at 100% scale ("Actual size"), never "fit to page". Both files are drawn for their own paper, so the margins and line spacing land exactly where they should.
Tip: 100–120gsm paper (27–32 lb) stops pens ghosting through — and both colorways print fine in grayscale if you're saving ink. More in the printing guide.
Questions people ask
Is three goals per quarter too few?
It is deliberately few. Three is what a normal life can carry alongside work and family; a list of ten produces one finished and nine fragments. Depth beats breadth on a single page.
Can I use it for yearly goals?
Yes — treat the page as one review cycle and write the year in the quarter line. Most people still prefer quarterly: deadlines twelve months out are where goals go to hibernate.
How does this connect to the habit tracker?
Naturally: the goal is the destination, habits are the vehicle. Once a goal's action steps stabilize into routine, move them onto the monthly habit tracker and free the goal block for the next thing.
Is there a digital version?
The PDF imports into tablet annotation apps and works with a stylus. Plenty of readers keep goals on paper precisely because the file drawer is where ambitions go missing.
